Oh, Vermont, the darling state of skiing, gorgeous nature, moose, year-round plaid, Bernie Sanders, and picturesque cozy inns. I can’t get enough of this state (in fact, moving here someday is on my bucket list), and after recently visiting the newest hotel in the charming town of Manchester, I realized I should probably just move into this new hotel.

Taconic, a new boutique hotel inspired by New England’s grand inns of the 19th and 20th centuries, has a multitude of things going for it: lots of plaid (thank gosh), gorgeous, huge bathrooms with brand new fixtures, and beyond tasty cuisine. The best part? Whatever the season, there’s something fun for you to do.
Coziness at Its Best

Taconic has cozy corners all over the property. Complete with check print blankets and pillows, the porch is a great place to nestle up with a bourbon and coffee cocktail (The Pulse Of April) or grab a blanket by the roaring fire pit—which is quite the après ski place to be.

I loved these horns in the library, which is curated by a local favorite, the Northshire Bookstore.
Historical Sights Nearby

I had the best time at Hildene, the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln’s son. Any American history fan will simply love the tour of the gorgeous estate, which is set on 412 acres.

The Restaurant

Is just darn good. Vermont native chef Adam Raftery has created a menu that is soulful with every ounce of Vermont tastiness. Must-haves include the warm house-baked pretzels with cheese fondue, poutine, pork belly, and cider-brined roast chicken.

For the Art-Obsessed

Make sure to visit the nearby Southern Vermont Art Center. There are tons of outdoor sculptures and beautiful local artwork for sale in their gallery.
The Accomodations

At Taconic, there are 87 rooms, 3 standalone cottages and 6 suites. Each room is homelike with a monogrammed “T” flannel pillow on the bed. Look out for the especially comfortable Frette bathrobes. I didn’t take mine off the entire trip.
